PHOTO SHARING:-
Pinterest is a pinboard
style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based
image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies.
Users can browse
other pinboards for images, `re-pin' images to their own pinboards, or 'like'
photos. The site was founded in March,2010 by Ben Silbermann,
Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp, the site is managed by Cold Brew Labs and funded
by a small group of entrepreneurs and investors.
Photobucket is an image
hosting and video hosting website, web services
suite, and online community dedicated to preserving and sharing the entire
photo and video lifecycle. Photobucket hosts more than 10 billion images from
100 million registered members, who upload more than four million images and
videos per day from the Web and connected digital devices.
Photobucket's
headquarters are in Denver with regional offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, New
York and San Francisco. The website was founded in 2003 by Alex Welch and
Darren Crystal and received funding from Trinity Ventures. It was acquired by
Fox Interactive Media in 2007. In December 2009, Fox's parent company, News Corp
sold Photobucket to Seattle mobile imaging startup Ontela. Ontela then renamed
itself Photobucket Inc. and continues to operate as Photobucket.
Flickr is an image
hosting and video hosting website, web services suite, and online community
that was created by Ludicorp in 2004 and acquired by Yahoo! in 2005. In
addition to being a popular website for users to share and embed personal
photographs, the service is widely used by bloggers to host images that they
embed in blogs and social media.
Yahoo reported in June 2011 that Flickr had a
total of 51 million registered members and 80 million unique visitors. In August
2011 the site reported that it was hosting more than 6 billion images and this
number continues to grow steadily according to reporting sources. Photos and
videos can be accessed from Flickr without the need to register an account but an
account must be made in order to upload content onto the website. Registering
an account also allows users to create a profile page containing photos and videos that the user has
uploaded and also grants the ability to add another Flickr user as a contact.
PHOTO EDITING:-
Adobe Photoshop Express
is a Flash-based image editing web application from Adobe used to directly edit
photos on blogs and social networking sites, so that users do not have to
download or upload images. Similar to Picnik, the
application currently works with sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Picasa and Photobucket.
In September 2011 the company also introduced Adobe Photoshop Express for
Android and iPhone. They allow editing pictures in the smartphone or tablet computer
rather than online.
PicMonkey is an online photo editing
service established by two former Picnik.com
engineers in 2012. When Google decided to shut down Picnik two years after
acquisition, engineers Brian Terry and Justin Huff decided to leave to build
PicMonkey as a replacement. The service
is freemium
with ad-supported free features and premium features through a membership known
as "Royale."
Membership is available on either a monthly or annual
basis paid via credit card or PayPal. PicMonkey has a similar feature set to
Picnik including basics like cropping and resizing, but also advanced features
like curves and other image filters. It is
headquartered in Seattle, Washington, United States.
BeFunky is a photo editing
application for mobile devices and web platform. It was
released on 1 September, 2007.
The application allows users to edit and apply
effects and frames to an image file. Users are able to save their edited
photograph to social media locations, including Facebook, Twitter,
Flickr, Tumblr, and the BeFunky gallery. BeFunky offers special effects such as
sketch, pinhole,
oil painting,
cyanotype
and pop art.
The application also allows users to choose from frames, borders and goodies.
