Automotive News is a weekly
print newspaper written for automotive retailers, suppliers and manufacturers. It
is based in Detroit and owned by Crain Communications Inc.
The brand has a team
of more than 55 editors and reporters worldwide. The company is headquartered
at 1155 Gratiot Avenue in downtown Detroit. George Slocum had felt for years
that the auto industry needed a trade newspaper and in 1925 he secured the
financial backing to start one. Automotive News started as Automotive Daily
News and the first issue appeared on August 27, 1925 by Slocum Publishing.
Autoblog.com is an internet-
based automotive news website owned and operated by AOL through their Weblogs,
Inc. branch. AOL reports 2.4 million visitors to the Autoblog.com website each
month. Major media outlets such as U.S. News & World Report and Business
Week use Autoblog research in their publications.
Autoblog also licenses its
images to media outlets such as CNN Money. Despite its name, Autoblog.com is
not a traditional weblog run by an individual. It is a fully staffed news
outlet with complete editorial and photographic departments.
Automobile magazine is an
automobile magazine in the United States founded in 1986 and is owned by Source
Interlink. It was founded by a group of former employees of Car and Driver
magazine, led by that publication's former editor, David E. Davis, and
originally published by News Corporation. Automobile distinguishes itself as
more of a lifestyle magazine than the other automotive publications, an
editorial theme that Davis greatly expanded upon from his tenure as the editor
of Car and Driver. Unlike most other automobile magazines, Automobile does not
often do instrumented tests of cars or provide much technical data. Instead,
the reviews of vehicles are subjective experiential reports with the cars in
their naturally intended, real world environment.
Additionally, Automobile reserves
a good portion of each issue covering vehicles no longer in production, but still
relevant to collectors or automotive history as a whole. It also has a regular
column by former General Motors designer Robert Cumberford, who analyzes
styling elements of current production models and show cars, often linking
their design to those of older cars. Automobile magazine is headquartered in
Ann Arbor, Michigan, in the building which formerly housed famous college dive
bar, The Pretzel Bell. Davis retired in recent years and the current president
and editor-in-chief is Jean Jennings, who helped Davis found the magazine.
